Many people are surprised about Nepal’s cultural and scenic diversity. Not only does it feature the highest mountain range on earth, the foothills and lowlands are equally stunning. Trekking in Manaslu offers all of that.
Finding a route that lets you experience both of these worlds without meeting too many annoying tourists can be difficult. The Manaslu area in Central Nepal had been opened for tourism relatively recently and has been declared a restricted area, limiting the number of tourists visiting in order to preserve the local culture and prevent the type of commercialization prevalent in other popular trekking areas.
Manaslu, peaking at 8163m, is the 8th highest mountain in the world. This challenging route is spectacular, both geographically and culturally, and the Tibetan influence is pre-dominant in the region. The trek is essentially a 160-mile circular pathway around several mountain ranges joining varied villages and following a clear glacial run-off river called Buri Gandaki
The Seti Khola or ‘Fair Lady” river runs 70 km. through some of the most serene and verdant countryside in Nepal.
This is an ideal 2-day trip for those who seek an introduction to rafting. The Seti takes teamwork – its waters flow through technical chutes and channels – your skill as a paddler will grow! The rapids are Class II & III – big waves, challenging holes and narrow runs, all ‘wetting’ your appetite for more!
The beauty of the Seti extends beyond its warm, sparkling waters. The Seti lies in an isolated gorge surrounded by beautiful jungle. Abundant wildlife is easily spotted along the riverbanks, including monkeys, deer and a wide array of birds and butterflies.
Our ‘put-in’ is at the village of Damauli on the Kathmandu-Pokhara Highway between Mugling and Pokhara. Our first day is spent driving to the river, equipment set-up, a delicious lunch, a thorough safety talk, and then on to the river for an afternoon of fun. Evenings are spent at serene riverside camps. All are welcome to help in preparation of meals – you’re a part of the rafting team!
On day two we come to the confluence of the Trisuli River and soon we’re at Gaighat our ‘take-out’. After eating lunch, we’re on the bus for the ride to Chitwan (2 hours drive)
Wake-up call, breakfast, after breakfast go for the elephant ride (app 2hours) (optional program: jeep drive) come back to the hotel. After lunch canoe in Rapti river (App 1 hour) and visit in elephant bridging centre and back to the hotel.
Early morning go for the bird watching in jungle or bank of the Rapti River. Come back to hotel and have breakfast, after breakfast drive back to Kathmandu.
