Overview

Tsum valley is a sacred Himalayan pilgrimage valley called the ‘Hidden Valley’ situated in the northern Gorkha in Nepal. ‘Tsum’ comes from the Tibetan word ‘Tsombo’,which means vivid. Traditionally, Tsum valley was a distinct geographical area called ‘TsumTso Chucksums’,which means thirteen provinces ruled as a single territory. Against the majestic backdrop of the Ganesh Himal, Sringi Himal, Boudha Himal ranges, the hidden valley is surrounded by the Boudha Himal and Himal Chuli to the west, Ganesh Himal to the south & Sringi Himal to the North. Tsum Valley trek lies in Manaslu region. This trail starts from Arughat (570m) to Chhekya (4240m) and ascends up to 5066m high. The Manaslu area is in Central Nepal and it borders Tibet in the north. The area has been opened for tourism recently and it has been declared as a restricted area.

The majority of people in this region are Tibetan, Sherpa, Gurung and Tamang, and of whom most are Buddhist and celebrate many Buddhist’s festivals like Lhosar, Dhacyhang, Saka Dawa, Faning and others. The area also has many monasteries (Gumba) with monks – most of whom are boys and girls(Anee). These monks are mostly a second daughter or son in a family, which follow the local tradition – and that is – learn Buddhism.
